Are you looking for a way to have your child taken care of while you go to work? Then, you should be looking out for child care programs for your child. Basically, they are programs for school-age youth and these programs provide adult supervision and age-appropriate activities in the hours before and after school. There are many types of such programs. Some of these programs may provide care for school-age youngsters only, while others might add a school-age component to an existing child care program.
No one type of child care program is necessarily better than another. There is no absolute guarantee of quality in child care programs, but there are some factors that help to ensure quality. For instance, programs that are approved by authorities would be a safe and good choice. Child care providers who are accredited by one or more of the approved agencies, are issued a Gold Seal certificate by the Child Care Program Office recognizing their achievement. This is definitely better for parents, as for example, in regulated child care programs, parents have the right to drop in at any time to observe the program or see their children.
How to find the ideal child care program for my child?
There are many factors in choosing the ideal child care program for your child. You can get help from your local Child Care Resource and Referral Agency. You should look for programs that encourage child care providers to make the best use of materials and equipment that most of them already have on hand at their facilities, and using what they have to provide children with an optimal learning experience. And if you are having trouble paying the fees, you can always seek your local government assistance or social non-profit childcare programs that help families to pay for child care.
There are many kinds of different programs. Some offer care for children in three age levels, such as infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, while other helps the child to become ready to learn and succeed in kindergarten, and proceed to next higher grade level. Most programs are concerned with the mental, physical, social and emotional needs of the children it serves.
You should note that some children are happier in small groups or homelike settings, while other children thrive in larger, center-based programs. In any type of care, school-age youngsters need a program that lets them enjoy their out-of-school time to relax, play, pursue hobbies and other interests, build relationships with trusted adults, and socialize with other children. Hence these are the factors to be considered when choosing a child care program for your child. Ideally, the program you choose should have a written plan for program activities and routines, and the plan must be shared with parents.
Child care programs usually do have additional activities like excursions for children on Saturday & Holiday Program. Such program is specially created for parents who work on Saturdays and most holidays. There are also specialized programs. For instance, the Army is testing a new childcare program which is designed to offer military families more childcare options. There are also program that encourages parents to participate in activities at whatever level is possible within the confines of their schedule. Usually this kind of program facilitates parent education, evening and/or weekend drop in, and other family/caregiver resources. There are also Saturday Orientations where all parents and/or guardians must attend a 2 hour orientation before attending the Saturday/Holiday program.
